Indie Tastemakers
Arrive in Newberg and check in to one of the cute and budget-friendly Yamhill Flats downtown. Stroll to a dinner of artisanal pizza and craft cocktail at Honey Pie, enjoyed in their back courtyard. In the morning, fuel up with locally roasted espresso drinks and pastries at Coffee Cat Coffee House. Walk off the pastries by browsing stylish independent shops downtown like Velour, Lineage, Pulp & Circumstance and UFLORA. Stop for a snack at the Good Company Cheese Bar & Bistro in between tasting room-hopping among six Newberg Downtown Wineries. Pick up crave-worthy tacos at Dos Mundos to take back to your vacation rental for dinner with a chilled bottle of local Pinot Noir rosé, or bring it to Wolves & People Farmhouse Brewery which operates on a hazelnut farm, to enjoy outdoors with a beer.
Meander the bucolic backroads through Oregon wine country, and check in at The Setting Inn Willamette. Before indulging in a tasting menu of handmade pastas at Rosmarino (reservations recommended!). Wake up to enjoy the hotel’s signature Breakfast Box with local beverages before heading out to play a round of golf at Chehalem Glenn. Spend the afternoon wine tasting and conversing with the winemaker hosts at some of Newberg’s more intimate tasting rooms such as Bell’s Up or Natalie’s Estate. At the end of the day, enjoy a wood-fired, farm-to-fork dinner at Ruddick/Wood. The next morning is all about cultural exploring, with a fascinating visit to the Hoover-Minthorn Museum and a stroll through the antique shops and art galleries in downtown Newberg, including the Chehalem Cultural Center’s ever changing art exhibits. Head over to the Newburgundian Bistro for lunch. Cap off your visit with a stop at one of Newberg’s three spirits producers (Brixeur Spirits,Ewing Young Distillery,Killdeer Distilling) on the new Wine Country Whiskey Trail.
Wine Country Luxury
Check in to the lauded Allison Inn & Spa. After settling in, head to the lounge and sip one of the sommelier’s wine selections by the stone fireplace before heading to experience the tasting menu at The Painted Lady. Wake up to wine country views and a spa treatment at The Allison before indulging in a day of wine tasting appointments chauffeured by Black Tie Tours, starting with the Culinary Experience (chef-prepared wine pairings) at Anacréon, followed by tastings at Nicolas-Jay (a partnership between renowned Burgundian winemaker Jean-Nicolas Méo and music entrepreneur Jay Boberg) and Sequitur (the latest project from lauded Beaux Frères co-founder and winemaker Michael Etzel and his family). Return to The Allison for dinner in the restaurant at Jory. Early the next morning, depart on a sunrise hot air balloon ride over the Willamette Valley with Vista Balloon, an unforgettable experience. Afterwards, toast the adventure with a glass of bubbly at the new tasting room at Domaine Willamette, which makes méthode traditionnelle sparkling wines.
